Mount Sopris is a new find for me. I don't live in this part of the state but this spot jumped out to me on Google maps when researching routes for a Colorado bike tour. The side of the mountain is covered with Aspen trees so the slopes of the mountain will be lit up with bright oranges, reds and yellows in late September. I like to have my spots selected well ahead of time rather than hoping to find the right vantage when I'm arriving there with a group of eager photographers. This particular evening I was hoping to get some night sky shots with the Milky Way right over the peak of the mountain. I arrived to find clouds ruining my night sky shot so...the clouds became my sky shot instead. I'm looking forward to getting back to this spot in the fall when the aspens are turning, and just maybe there will be a dusting of snow to make everything a little magical.
