It’s actually a rehearsal for China’s anniversary celebration. When I first visited China I walked trough all of the tourist shopping zones in Shanghai and came across this rehearsal for an anniversary celebration. Not only was the rehearsal very well organized, it was very well attended. I couldn’t understand a word of it, but the choir sounded really good. I wasn’t the only one who thought it was worth stopping to listen to. I stayed and watched for about 15 minutes and the crowd kept growing. I imagine this square is going to be packed when they do this for real. This venue is right in the middle of busy shopping districts, offices and residential towers. Whenever they hold an event it’s meant to get lots of attention. There is an unusual sense of national pride here that I’ve never encountered anywhere else in the world.
